Annual Report 1974-5

Ladies and Gentlemen, our D.A. has this year enjoyed the benefits of a superb summer and steadily increasing membership.  Attendance on our regular weekly rides has increased, more "Weekends" have been demanded and there has been a much keener interest in the Benstead Cup events.
Average Attendances -  Sundays - 25, Thursday Evenings - 10.

Organised Weekend Runs have been made in Nov. to Streatley & Duntisbourne Abbots, in Dec. to Cranbourne, in Jan. to the Black Mountains, in July the "Wayfarers" went to Arundel, in Aug to E. Sussex & W. Kent.  The Thursday Nighters also had runs in May to Mottisfont and in Oct. to Maiden Bradley.

The Benstead Cup Competition has engendered far greater interest this year, possibly as a result of the information sheet passed around early in the season.  The total number of entrants has risen from 84 last year to 115 this year.
50 Mile Standard Ride  18 riders, all finished, 15 qualified for certificates.
Speedjudging evening event, 16 entrants, won again by George Alesbury.
Roughstuff evening event, 14 entrants, convincing win by Jeffrey Findlay.
100 km. Standard Ride & Tourists Trial  the wettest day of the year, 11 entrants, 2 riders qualified for 100km Certificates and the joint winners of the Tourist Trial were Stuart Jackson and Eddy Hargreaves who share the Bernard Howell Memorial Trophy.
Hill Climb  25 entrants, won by Ken Bolingbroke.
Freewheeling  20 entrants, won by H. Coleman.
Attendance Competition - Edwards Cup convincing win by Bill Inder 202pts, 2nd Russ Mantle, 140pts, 3rd I. Essex 128pts.
Winner of the Benstead Cup is Ian Essex 432pts, 2nd Jeffrey Findlay 424 pts, 3rd Harold Coleman 386pts.  An exciting finish not resolved until the final event.

Christmas Tea  41 riders enjoyed an excellent tea at Amy's, Tongham.

The Sponsored Ride in aid of "Action for the Crippled Child" was organised by Gareth Keller, 100 riders, mostly schoolchildren raised the fine sum £416.87.

The fascinating Slide Show given by Martin Purser attracted over 60 viewers.

The Photographic Competition has drawn many entrants - on Nov 8th Horsell.

Guildford Show.  Keith Parfitt organised the CTC stand again which attracted much interest and resulted in some new members - 3 joined at the Show.

Committee Meetings  - 8 meetings have been held at members homes - their hospitality has been greatly appreciated.  Attendance by individual members has been:-  G. Alesbury - 8, H. Coleman - 8, D. Field - 8, J. Findlay - 6, W. Inder - 8, C. Jeggo - 6, R. Mantle - 6, K. Parfitt - 8, H. Smith - 8.

Our Thanks go to all those who have assisted in D.A. activities and in particular to George Alesbury, Russ Mantle, Keith Parfitt, Wilf Warren, Owen Brown and our delightful Ladies who have provided refreshments.
