WEST SURREY DA NEWSLETTER

TOUR OF THE HILLS 4th August. Entries are now beginning to role in for this DA event and we are still short of helpers.  Please volunteer and if need be get a non cycling friend to help the DA by marshalling a corner for a few hours.  Club Night on the 31st July will be given over to sorting out final arrangements so please turn up then.

CLUB MAGAZINE. I am still short of articles and/or letters for our new magazine.  Why not write a good complaining letter to me for inclusion!  The Magazine is being supported by:-

PEDAL PUSHERS - 73 Woodbridge Rd. Guildord.
RICHARD CRAWSHAW LANDSCAPE SERVICES - Farnham.
ON YOUR BIKE - 5 Bridge St. Godalming.
If you go into either of the shops or have your garden landscaped do mention the CTC DA.

WEDNESDAY RIDES. If you're interested in an easy ride on a Wednesday morning contact George Aylesbury (Tel. Weybridge 43285) or George Porter for a Runs List.  For those DA members at work during the morning why not try a Helen Juden Wednesday evening ride which now seem to be very popular.  Contact Helen on Guildord 64659.  These rides are easy and suitable for the not very fit; average attendance so far has been 20 riders.

RACING NEWS. Not normally a feature of the newsletter but in the Charlotteville 10 a week ago the following times were recorded by DA members on their normal touring irons:-

Chris Seymour 26-58
Steve Pack 27-22
Helen Gill 26-51
With a time like that Helen should perhaps be thinking of entering for the Ladies Nationals.

The first two rides in the DA medal scheme went well.  In the 50 mile event 49 started and 43 finished, in the 200km ride 19 started and 17 finished.  The Speedjudging and Roughstuff events were also successful.  Clive Richardson won the speedjudging with perfect pace, Steve Pack second, Dave Butler claimed the Roughstuff for the fourth year with Helen Gill second.  Our thanks to all who helped in organising/marshalling on both events.

Unfortunately the Night Ride was cancelled through lack of sufficient numbers entering although 21 did role up for Breakfast.  Many of these latter entered after the closing date to the consternation of Mrs Butler.  The Butler family are good friends to the DA so next year when a closing date is given to allow catering to be done get your name in well before or you won't get fed.

YORK RALLY 20-21 JULY. Keith Parfitt is still planning a short tour to take in the Rally.  Contact him if you'd like to go.

FORTHCOMING EVENTS.
3rd JULY - HELEN JUDEN invites all her Wednesday night riders to an evening at the Club House.
7th JULY - 100 mile Ride, tea at Addlestone. (3rd counter in DA medal scheme).
10th JULY - Town Centre Racing in Guildford.
21st JULY - Tea and swimming at Mike Harlows pool, Hoe Lane, Peaslake.

The General Section Ride on the 9th June sounds more like a destruction derby, Dave Butler and Helen Gill crashed their tandem descending Bexley Hill.  The Judens tandem crashed later, followed by Steve Pack, even Hamish and Bionic Bert crashed on the way to tea!  All this plus multiple punctures, fortunately no serious injuries were incurred.

The DA tour to Meriden was successful although young Steve Davies (no not the snooker player) over stoked on Mars bars'.
