Rules for 2007  (the 70th Anniversary of the Trophy)

BENSTEAD CUP

 - awarded for riding Club Events

Non-Competitive Club Events

• Bicycle Icycle (formerly the Surrey Hills Saunter)
• 50 mile Reliability Ride
• Stonehenge 200 or Danebury 150 or Elstead 100 km
• Tour of the Hills or Tour of the Greensand Hills
• 100 or 75 mile Reliability Ride

Maximum of 200 points per year

Competitive Club Events

• The 'Scorathon' (route finding and treasure hunt)
• The 'Tricyclathon' (hill-climb, pace judging and free-wheeling;  three disciplines = 1 event)

Event winner:  100 points

Other placings:  100 ( 1 - [P - 1] / N ) points, where P = position, N = no. of entrants
Example:  for 20 entries:  1^st = 100 points, 2^nd = 95 points, 3^rd = 90 points etc.

Competitive events only count if there are at least 4 entrants.

Attendance on club runs

Sundays:        maximum of 4 points
   Morning start = 1 point, mid-morning break = 1 point,
   lunch = 1 point, afternoon tea = 1 point.

Midweek:         3 points

Sunday and Midweek attendances cannot be combined, i.e. a maximum of 4 points per week are available.

Maximum of 150 points per year.

Overall scoring

Maximum attainable points = 200 (non-competitive) + 200 (competitive) + 150 (attendance) = 550.

 - for organising and marshalling Benstead Cup events.

Other Cups and Shields are awarded for:

• Benstead Ladies Shield - Highest Benstead Cup Points for a Lady
• Bernard Howell Trophy - Highest Benstead Cup Points for a Veteran (55+)
• Bill Inder Trophy - Highest number of Sunday attendance points
• George Alesbury Tankard - Highest number of midweek attendance points
• Bert Bartholomew Trophy - Oldest DA rider to complete the 100 mile event within the time limit
• Wooden Crank - awarded for Biggest Blunder
• Junior Benstead Cup - under 18 on 30^th September 2007
• Junior Attendance Cup - Sunday & midweek - under 18 on 30^th September 2007

The Bert Bartholomew Memorial Trophy was given to the DA in 1997 for award to the eldest member of the DA who completes the 100 mile reliability ride within 12 hours.  Since then there have been many years when no 100 mile reliability ride has been run, so the trophy has been awarded to the oldest member completing the 50 mile reliability ride within the time limit.  This year, however, it reverts to the '100'.
